Update on new point system for my boys

UPDATE ON POINT SYSTEM and TEACHING  TO SET AND ACCOMPLISH GOALS

Last week went pretty well and they earned $3 out of the maximum $5 a week. This week has been a little shaky to start but we are reiterating them earning points and helping out the family to work towards the goals they set. Ty has a goal to buy a new tablet and I told him that I would pay half. I need to discuss with Zak what his goal is.

I work from daily to-do lists, set short/long term goals and plan ALL the time. I LOVE that I can pass this along to my kids. It is important to learn these important pieces of life so they can really work on being successful in the areas of life THEY want.

I am here to guide them as they discover their passion, who they are, what they want to do in life and why they are here. It is important for them to figure this out through their own experiences. I WILL NOT be the parent that dictates their path in life. It is kinda hard to say that because I NEVER want them to go down the path I went down but ALL I can control is me and the info, guidance and support I provide to them. That is why I am setting them up with the means for success, even if it is for a tablet because it all starts from small attainable goals. These small goals that they reach will raise their happiness, self-confidence and self-motivation to want to accomplish MORE of what THEY want.
It's a great piece of advice to you reading this blog, YOU are NEVER TOO OLD to DREAM, SET GOALS and ACCOMPLISH THEM. Before you know it, you will be that much closer to happiness.

Have a fantastic day and DREAM BIG!!!!

My blog for to-do list point system

KIDS!!!

I LOVE and ADORE my boys but our lives are stressful at times!
We need a system that WORKS!

We have Ty, age 8, red head and Mr. Knowitall. He rarely helps with the family but when we make him, he is a happy camper! He is also an arguer, a complainer but he is so stinking cute!! He will argue over anything.(I think he may just be a GREAT attorney one day;) He has a LOVE for video games and will get lost in time every chance he gets and forgets about helping the family out(how convenient.lol). He tells me all the time he wants to design video games that won't scare parents!(CUTE!). He is such a love at times and I really take in those moments and cherish them!

Then we have Zak!!! Zakky Poo(by the way, I'm the ONLY one that can call him that) is the sweetest boy most of the time(yes, he is an instigator and the younger brother, aren't they all like that?!LOL)  He has a love for food and will try anything you give him and will help you cook anytime! He LOVES to make people laugh and is successful at it with his antics and what comes out of his mouth! He is also a live, moving noise machine! Always finding some kind of NEW noise he can make with his mouth. He is a pleaser and wants to help with just about everything until his mood changes, then watch out! Needless to say, at our house, it is always busy(except in the middle of the night.lol)

So come to find out, my boys didn't come with instruction manuals(Why don't they tell us these things!!LOL) So, MANY times it's tricky to figure out what works to help them grow and learn to be a responsible adult.(WHOA, if they pick up my antics from my party days, yikes!lol) It can get darn frustrating to teach them these important aspects of life when they are opposed to doing the things you are trying to teach them! BUT, they are for a fact little beings with minds of their own just with less experience. They don't want orders just like adults don't want ORDERS!  So, my job as a parent is to guide them towards being able to eventually make good decisions on their own. (OH PLEASE HELP ME! LOL). I try not to interfere TOO much! I provide a safe environment the best I can while they are learning these life skills.

So in efforts to make my house a SANE environment for all the family members, we have started a new point system that Alex's mom had received from a friend of hers long ago. We have been using it the past couple of days and it seems to be working out quite well! Now I don't believe in paying for every single thing they do, but I believe in this point system.
The photo below is this week for Ty. Now we are in the trial phase and getting the kinks worked out but it is going pretty well. One of the biggest aspects of doing this, is the follow through and Alex and I agreeing on how this this system is put together.  So often we had tried something and never kept up with it. Life got in the way, just gave up or we didn't agree on it. This time, is going to be different because WE TRULY feel this is going to work and WE WILL follow through.

Just as adults like incentives, kids do too. I don't think it's an unreasonable amount of work or money. As time goes on, we will add and subtract some things to the list.

When your child is arguing about 95% of the time, it gets exhausting and frustrating. I am NOT over exaggerating with how much Ty argues! It really has helped subdue his arguing with us because he hates getting a point taken away!(SO YAY FOR TY AND YAY FOR OUR SANITY!!!)  Both boys are seeing results and feeling accomplished. They don't like the fact that they can lose points(although it does happen, they are doing well!) I know when I make a list and things are getting done and checked off, it makes me feel great! It is much more pleasant around the house these past few days and we are LOVING IT! Kids are happy, dad is happy and mom is happy.( well, we are slowly getting there.lol)
I hope someone can benefit from this too! Raising a family does not have to be complicated, you just have to search and try enough things to find what works :)
